When we first arrived in Malaysia, we stayed in KL (a serviced apartment in Chow Kit). The place was great - city vibe, close to KL Tower, Petronas view from rooftop, good amenities and everything nearby.
But after exploring different areas for about 10 days, we eventually decided to move and settle in Cyberjaya instead of Kuala Lumpur.
How We Discovered Cyberjaya
We were mainly travelling around looking for schools for my 6-year-old. Our plan was simple - find a good international school first, then choose a neighborhood nearby to live.
We explored multiple areas:
-
Mont Kiara
-
Rawang
-
Gombak
-
Shah Alam
-
Petaling Jaya
-
Bukit Jalil
-
Putrajaya
-
Cyberjaya
One evening we drove to Cyberjaya and immediately liked the place. It felt calm, green, and much less crowded compared to KL. At the same time, KL was only about a 30-minute drive away if we wanted the city vibe.
So, we weighed the pros and cons of moving away from KL and finally decided to give it a try.
It’s been about 3 months now, and I feel the decision worked well for us. The only downside is that most digital nomad events and meetups happen in KL, so travelling for community activities might feel tiring at times. But personally, I’m enjoying the peaceful environment in Cyberjaya while working remotely. For me, it’s a good balance - calm family life in Cyberjaya and quick trips to KL whenever needed.
One limitation I noticed is that the number of coworking spaces in Cyberjaya is quite limited. I explored a few in Cyberjaya and Putrajaya, and I’ll probably do a separate write-up about them later.
Curious to know about others. Which areas have you picked and why?
