When I arrived, I was stamped 30 days stay at immigration and was told to complete the endorsement before that period expired.
The endorsement was done fully online through the same portal used for the De Rantau application. Everything was digital.
Requirements for Endorsement
You’ll need digital copies (PDF/images) of the following:
-
Personal Bond Agreement Form
-
Immigration entry stamp/e-visa copy
-
Passport copy with at least 3 empty pages
-
Income Tax e-Registration Slip
-
Travel/Health Insurance (at least 03 months validity)
Application Steps
-
Go to the official portal: MDEC | De Rantau Application and login to your account
-
Click on your approved De Rantau visa application which will now show that it is ready for endorsement.
-
Print, Sign and Scan the Personal Bond Agreement available in the document section of the application. Upload to the ‘Personal Bond Agreement’ section in the endorsement screen.
-
Scan/take a photo of the immigration entry stamp on your passport which shows the date you entered into Malaysia and the validity. Upload this image and also upload the e-visa copy to the ‘e-Visa/Reference Visa/Latest entry stamp/boarding pass/flight ticket**’** section
-
Upload your passport copy showing at least 3 empty pages
-
Then comes the Income Tax e-registration slip section. You are supposed to register at Hasil (Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia) (e-Daftar) and upload the registration slip. TIN number allocation will take anywhere between 4-7 days, but you don’t need to wait for that. Just upload the registration slip which you get after you register. I tried to register at Hasil website, but it asked for some info which I did not have an answer to at that time, like, Source Income (Business Activities or Non-Business Activities), correspondence and residential address (I was still living at a short-term serviced apartment and actively searching for a long-term stay). So, I exited the registration and kept this section empty.
-
Upload a copy of Health Insurance showing coverage in Malaysia and valid for at least next 3 months. I purchased the Nomad Insurance from SafetyWing (recommended on MDEC website) SafetyWing - Insurance for Nomads, by Nomads . It costs 54$ per month for the nomad essential plan for age group between. One child is covered for free under a parent. So, me and my wife at 54$ each per month. Initial coverage must be for at least 3 months.

And that’s it. The application status changes to
In Progress MDEC -
Once MDEC reviews your submission and it gets approved, the status changes to
Pending Payment. Now, you can proceed to pay the required fees.
Endorsement Fee & Payments
- Personal Bond Fee is different based on your nationality. This is only for the primary application and not needed for dependents. Refer this link for the rates https://esd.imi.gov.my/portal/pdf/personal-security-bond-rates-v3.pdf
- Visa Fee
- RM 410 for primary applicant (e-pass RM 360 + Multiple Entry RM 50)
- RM 190 for each dependent (e-pass RM 140 + Multiple Entry RM 50)
Once the payment is made, the status changes to Pending Pass Issuance. After a few days, this changes to Endorsed.
As a primary applicant, you are issued a Professional Visit epass and the dependents are issued Social Visit epass with a validity of 1 year from the date of your arrival in Malaysia and not the date of endorsement. This can be downloaded as a pdf document from the portal.
I took a printout of this e-pass on A6 size and laminated it, to carry around everywhere I go. ![]()
